with Jen Uselton,
UCA Cheer Instructor for 17 years, 6x UCA Head Instructor of the Year,
former American Association of Cheerleading Coaches & Administrators Coaches (AACCA) Education Coordinator

Learn communication skills for managing and resolving conflict among coaches, parents and athletes in this candid DVD from veteran cheer coach Jennifer Uselton.

Drawing on real-life issues from her 16-year coaching career, Uselton shares tips and techniques for creating an environment of compassionate understanding that will open pathways to creative problem solving, team building and improved relationships.

Uselton opens with a brief overview of the four main stages of group development, emphasizing the second or "storming" stage where most conflict occurs. She applies a unique interpretation of Dale Carnegie's highly successful "feel, felt and forward" method to six different scenarios. Each scenario shows how to diffuse emotionally charged situations to create positive results that respect different, often opposing viewpoints.

Viewers who practice Uselton's easy-to-follow advice will become competent, confident communicators.

Part 2 of the DVD addresses two critical and timely topics: effective social media networking and cyber-bullying.

Uselton discusses developing and protecting team reputations in the highly pervasive and accessible environments of social networks like Facebook and Twitter. She also gives pointers for protecting individuals from negative activities like cyber bullying and shares 10 cyber-bullying facts that every coach (and parent) needs to know in order to protect teens from embarrassing, hurtful behaviors.

Her presentation concludes with three tips for using the Internet to achieve positive results.

Effective conflict resolution requires specific communication skills. Uselton provides these tools plus important strategies for maintaining reputations and ensuring personal safety in an Internet-based age-all in less than 30 minutes. Every coach, athlete and parent can learn something from this presentation.

28 minutes. 2011.
